Built it ourselves. Built it for you.
Our Story
For years, this place was an abstract idea we kicked around. The hypothetical what if turned, eventually, into the impassioned we must. After all, we had the space – a blank box of opportunity, in need of lots of love but also full of potential. We could have turned it into an apartment and rented it to just one occupant. But in our community, we saw a longing for connection and a need for shared moments. We saw a desire for a place that stands at the intersection of public and private life.
So we built it ourselves. Bricks. Mortar. Wood. Stone. All of it.
We called it Human Spaces.
We think it’s the best of both worlds.
This is a gathering place unlike any other in St. Louis. The use of Human Spaces is not dictated solely by commerce. Instead, we are dedicated to cross-pollination and developing an appreciation of difference. This is a place for art and books, poetry and music, food and drink. This is a place for humans to connect with one another, no matter how different they might think they are.
What kind of events take place within our walls? Whew, where to begin: We’ve had art shows, live jazz brunches, pop-up dinners, poetry readings, book-club get-togethers, tech user groups, community potlucks, seed swaps, meditation retreats, a speaker series, and even a memorial service.
The space becomes what you need it to be. As long as people use it, Human Spaces will never stop developing, evolving, and welcoming more and more friends.
We hope to see you soon.
